Hunted by sycophants and bound to a doomed prophecy, Jouler flees Onatah Forest with L’Veyna, a young Prytha Keeper, Facet of Prophecy fated to destroy her people with him at her side. Together, they avoid imperial patrols, hide in a town swarming with the empire’s ruthless assassins, and discover that family runs far deeper than blood. Maneuvering through Sotouri training grounds, they find refuge in among the Boorde, where a dear friend, long thought dead, rises from Jouler’s past. When a prophetic vision reveals the location of the Black Breath, rumor of Jouler’s role in Prophecy spreads among the Boorde. Pursued across the Blasted Lands, Jouler chases a power he barely understands. One that Prophecy insists he must claim.

Meanwhile, in the ashen slopes of the Alrynn Mountains, Kael and Makayla—Crier of Change and Incarnation of Light—recover from a battle that nearly broke them. Hunted by the empire, hunger forces them from their cave and into the arms of a ruthless Citizen. In order to save Kael, Makayla must feign hatred, endure his tortured cries, and seek forgiveness from someone who has none.

As Prophecy twists ever darker, Jouler and L’Veyna race toward a power they can’t understand, while Kael and Makayla are dragged to their inexorable fate. In a world where Prophecy blurs the line between salvation and ruin, not all who carry the Light will survive its righteous vengeance.
