When someone reaches the peak of magic they are named an archmage. When they find themselves unmatched with the blade they are called hero. To a mage or a warrior theirs' are stories to inspire, ringing forever in their hearts, something to reach for, in attempts to become greater.
But what of the other people? Surely a war is not won by blade alone, and even the greatest of magics must have limits. What of the smiths, the carpenters, the weavers, the merchants?
What of all the countless faces forgotten in the margins? Someone had to polish the armor, to saddle the horses, rally the troops, and sweep the inns.
Did you forget about them? They are countless, they are thankless, but still they are. And like the apprentice looking up to the stars, or the young man gripping his first sword, they know the legendary stories of those few in their profession to have reached the peak.
Not all are satisfied with themselves, there will always be those who strive to be better. Do you know what to call the greatest armorers? The most cunning thief? The richest swindler, or the noblest lord?
This is a story of some such people, the kind who's pen can stop armies. Who's hook catches the sun. Those few secret legends of a world filled with magic and mystery. This is the story of how they became remembered.
